This week's story: Tadpole to Frog
Strategy: Determining Importance in text
Skill: Author's Purpose
Phonics: -ob, -og; adding -s to make plural nouns
Writing: complete sentences, capitalization, punctuation, 4-square organization of writing
Math:
We'll be focusing on classifying and patterns this week (SOLs 1.16, 1.17). So students will sort and classify objects according to one or more attributes such as color, size, shape, and/or thickness. They'll also learn to recognize, describe, extend, and create a growing or repeating pattern.
Social Studies:
We've started studying communities in Virginia (SOL 1.12). Students have learned why our local government is important, about diversity in our community, and how we are united as Americans. We'll continue that this week, with an assessment on Wednesday.
Important reminders/notes:
- No school tomorrow (Tuesday) - Teacher Work Day
- Book Fair starts Monday - our class will go to preview on Wednesday. So the children will come home with a 'wish list' of books they'd like, in case you might want to send a few dollars in for them to buy a book. They can purchase books in the morning (8:35 - 9:05), or when we go as a class on our purchase day (date TBA). Volunteers are still needed at the Book Fair, so let me know if you can help out.
