Week of 2/25

Well February sure has been busy! We've had Groundhog Day, Valentines Day, 100th Day of School, Black History, Dental Health, and American Heart Month. Before we know it, Spring will be here and we'll be getting ready for Spring Break!

 Language Arts:
This week's story: Slim, Luke, and the Mules
Strategy: Drawing Conclusions
Skill: Plot

Phonics: Sounds of long u (i.e. tube vs. cute), ending digraphs -th, -sh, -ch (i.e. teeth, crush, such
)
Writing: "Super-size" sentences

Math:

Students did a GREAT job last week with SOL 1.1b - (tens and ones). Now we'll be moving on to measurement (SOL 1.9). We'll be exploring how to measure length, weight, and volume with nonstandard units.

Social Studies:

We learned so many great facts about famous Americans (SOL 1.2), and now we are moving on to another Social Studies unit, American Symbols (SOL 1.11). Students will learn more about our flag, the bald eagle, the Statue of Liberty, and the Washington Monument. We'll be collecting all the important papers from this unit in a booklet that the children have created.

Important reminders/notes:
*Remember that this week is Dr. Seuss week - see the homework sheet for what to do/wear each day. We are looking forward to a fun-filled week!
*You're doing an awesome job with sending in those Box Tops - keep them coming  - we can be the winners!!
