Happy Memorial Day! Hopefully everyone was able to enjoy the gorgeous weather over the weekend. Many thanks to the many military men and women in our community who have served and continue to serve our country. We are so thankful!
Here's what's happening this week in our class:
Language Arts:
This week's story: The Snow Glory
Strategy: Summarizing
Skill: Theme
Phonics: vowel diphthong ou, medial consonants
Writing: giving directions
Math:
We will be reviewing word problems this week (SOL 1.6). Students will practice the steps to solving word problems:
1) Read and identify key words (i.e. "in all", "how many more", "altogether", "are left", etc.)
2) Draw a picture
3) Write number sentence
4) Solve/check
Science/Social Studies:
Students will be so excited to start our animals unit this week (SOL 1.5). We'll learn about life needs and physical characteristics of animals, as well as how to classify animals according to certain characteristics (wild/tame, water/land home, etc)
*Field trip permission slips and money are due on Wed. 5/29
*Field Day is Friday - remember to apply sunscreen! :)
