Thanks to all of you for helping to make your child's first week such a success. I appreciate your support in getting all supplies in and forms returned so quickly. We had an AWESOME first week and I am excited for our first full week together this week!
New homework sheets will be in the homework folder tomorrow (Monday). They stay in the HW folder all week. Please remember to sign/initial your child's agenda daily. If your child is going home a different way than usual, please let me know via the agenda. I check those first thing every morning.
Here's a look at what we'll be learning this week:
Language Arts:
Strategy - predicting
Skill - classifying
Phonics - initial consonants and -at, -an, -ap word families
Writing - complete sentences, capitalization, and end marks
Math:
We'll be working on SOL (Standard of Learning) 1.1a, which is counting from 1-100. This is an ongoing SOL, so students do not have to be able to count and write numbers all the way to 100 just yet. This week, we are just focusing on the basics - 1-10 - and reviewing sequence of numbers (before, after, between). Those who need enrichment will be able to go beyond 10.
Social Studies:
We will be alternating Science and Social Studies units, and we are starting with Social Studies. So Science will not begin until we assess this first Social Studies unit, which is SOL 1.10 - Citizenship. Students will be able to identify and apply the traits of good citizenship. Talk with your child about how he or she can demonstrate good citizenship every day. By the end of the week, your child should also be able to tell you why we have rules and why it's important to vote.
Upcoming Important Dates/Reminders:

- Wednesday 9/19: 1:00 dismissal
- Tuesday 9/25: Back to School Night @ 7pm (SEARCH Open House is at 6pm)
