Week of 9/17

I hope everyone had a restful weekend and that all are ready for a fun week of school. We have a busy week ahead!

Language Arts: 
Strategy: Making Connections
Skill: Main idea and fact vs. fantasy
Phonics: beginning sounds and -op, -ot, -it, -ig word families
Writing: complete sentences, capitalization, punctuation

Math:
We'll continue our exploration of SOL 1.1a, counting. Students will continue to learn/review number words, count objects in a set, and be able to identify numbers that come before, between, and after a given number.

Social Studies:
Students are learning about SOL 1.10, citizenship. We'll continue to discuss characteristics of good citizenship. The test for this unit will be on Thursday. We will begin our science unit about Fall (SOL 1.7) on Friday.

Important Upcoming Dates/Reminders:
*Wednesday, 9/19 - 1:00 dismissal
*Tuesday, 9/25 -
6:00 - SEARCH Open House
7:00 - Back to School Night - I hope you can make it - I will have a slideshow of photos of what we've been working on so far. I'll also answer any questions about our classroom routines/procedures. Individual parent conferences can be scheduled for a different date.
*Please leave your child's HW sheet in his/her HW folder for the week. Sometimes students use these in class if we are doing a sight words activity.
*Red folders have arrived! Graded paper folders will be coming home Tuesday.
