Week of 9/24

What a beautiful weekend! Hopefully everyone was able to get outside and enjoy it! I'm looking forward to seeing all of you on Tuesday night. Back to School Night will begin at 7:00 in the cafeteria, then you will come back to our classroom for one of two sessions. I will be presenting information about our classroom, as well as a video slideshow of the children "in action".

This week...
Language Arts: 
Strategy: Visualizing
Skill: Sequencing/retelling
Phonics: beginning sounds and -et, -en, -ug, -ut, -up word families
Writing: complete sentences, capitalization, punctuation

Math:
We're wrapping up our numbers unit and will be moving on to SOL 1.5. Students will learn addition facts for sums up to six and corresponding subtraction facts. We'll have fun learning various strategies for adding and subtracting. 

Science:
We are taking a couple of days to learn about Fall (SOL 1.7), then will begin our SOL 1.1 unit about planning and conducting investigations. This week will focus on our five senses and how scientists use them when conducting experiments.

Reminders/Important Dates:

• Mrs. Jones, our P.E. teacher, is collecting money for the Hog Jog if your child is participating (information sent home last week in red folder). 
• Book orders are due tomorrow (Tuesday).
•  10/2 - Watchdog Kick-off Pizza Party at 6pm
• 10/3 - Interim reports will be issued
• 10/4 - Read for the Record  - this year's book is Ladybug Girl and the Bug Squad by David Soman and Jacky Davis
