Week of 10/15

What a gorgeous weekend!! Who's ready for Monday? :/

Remember that this Wednesday is a 1:00 dismissal day, so we will eat lunch from 11:35 - 12:05.

Hopefully your child has a character in mind for Book Character Day, which is next Friday, 10/26. I'll be talking more about this day with the kids this week; but they do need to read their book and be able to tell us about their character's role in the story. This can be a book from home or from the library. Please be sure they have the book with them for Book Character Day.

Here's what's happening this week:

Language Arts:
This week's story: I Went Walking
Strategy: Predicting
Skill: Retelling/Sequencing

Phonics: Final /ck/, -it, -ick word families

Writing: complete sentences, capitalization, punctuation, 4-square organization of writing

Math:

We've begun our study of geometry and I was amazed that the children already knew ALL of the attributes of squares, circles, rectangles, and triangles. We will continue to do some geometry activities this week.

Science:

We wrapped up our senses/scientists unit last week when we used all five of our senses with popcorn. Students LOVED seeing, smelling, hearing, tasting, and touching their popcorn. Many thanks to Rylee and Mrs. Sequoyah for the use of their popcorn machine and supplies! This week, we'll begin a unit that explores the relationship between the sun and the Earth (SOL 1.6).

Other important notices/reminders:
  • 1:00 dismissal on Wednesday
  • Picture Day is Friday!
  • Decades Dance is Friday from 7-9!!
  • Remember to send in plastic bags for the Isle be Green recycling program
  • Our class is doing GREAT with the Boxtops contest - keep sending those in!
