*be sure to scroll to the bottom of this post, also, for some important notices/reminders! :)
Here is a look at what else we'll be working on this week:
Language Arts:
This week's story: Can You Find It?
Strategy: Questioning and Predicting
Skill: Cause and Effect
Phonics: ending sounds b, k, s, r, f, l and -ad, -am, -an word families
Writing: complete sentences, capitalization, punctuation, 4-square organization of writing
Math:
We will be moving on to our exploration of geometry (SOLs 1.12 and 1.13). Students will be able to identify, describe, and sort triangles, squares, rectangles, and circles according to number of sides, vertices, and right angles. A great way for students to practice their shapes is to have them identify shapes all around them - driving in the car, outside at a playground, park, soccer field, etc. Shapes are EVERYWHERE! Keep practicing facts at home, even though we are done with that unit at school. =)
Science:
We are continuing our study of our 5 senses, but also working a little bit on Christopher Columbus. Students are loving all of the ways we have been using our senses. The test for this unit will be on Thursday.
Other important notices/reminders:
- The PTA meeting is tomorrow night at 6pm - they will be discussing important topics such as new pick-up procedure and new food policy for outside treats.
- Be thinking about who your child will be for Book Character Day, which is October 26th. More information will be coming home soon, but students must have the book with them for the character they choose to 'become', and be able to explain the character's role in the story.
- Remember to send in plastic bags for the Isle be Green recycling program
- Our class is doing GREAT with the Boxtops contest - keep sending those in!
- The fundraiser packets went home today
- Thanks to all to have sent in items for Treasure Box - we have plenty of things now, and the kids are very excited to have Treasure Box this week!
